THIS HAS THE VERY RARE AND HIGHLY VALUED MARBLED HANDLE. THE BAKELITE HANDLES THAT WERE MADE TO LOOK LIKE ETCHED IVORY, ARE FAR MORE AVAILABLE, THAN THIS MASTERPIECE STYLE WAS (SEE PICS). I BELIEVE THIS TO BE CELLULOID. DOES SMELL LIKE CAMPHOR WHEN RUN UNDER HOT WATER. ALSO LOOKS LIKE CELLULOID PURSES I'VE HAD OVER THE YEARS. BEUTIFUL OLD MARBLED PLASTIC. SAYS "MASTERPIECE" ON ONE SIDE OF THE SHANK AND "MAHER & GROSH TOLEDO, OHIO", ON THE OTHER. NO CRACKS IN PLASTIC. STILL VERY BEAUTIFUL AND SHINY. NO CHIPS OUT OF THE FACE, EDGE OR HEEL OF THE RAZOR. THERE IS A RUST PATCH ON THE TOLEDO SIDE. IT'S NOT VERY DEEP. SPECKLING ALONG RAZORS EDGE. SOME RUST ON SPINE.I HAVE NOT CLEANED, POLISHED OR SHARPENED INSTRUMENT, OTHER THAN DOING THE WATER TEST. BEST LEAVE THAT TO THE PROFESSIONALS. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE 1920'S - 1930'S, BUT I AM NOT AN EXPERT, JUST A COLLECTOR. PLEASE WRITE ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS.

William H. Maher and Emil Grosh first met in Toledo, Ohio one hundred forty-five years ago at C. Gerber & Co., a wholesale hardware company, where they worked as traveling salesmen. Their acquaintanceship became a business partnership in 1877 when the two formed Maher & Grosh Wholesale Cutlery Co. Using skills garnered from years of experience in the hardware industry, Maher and Grosh set out with one goal in mind: sell quality, American-made products to folks all across the world.
