This is
an antique George Wostenholm & Sons "Celebrated I-XL"
straight razor with an 11/16
inch
(.64" - .73")
wide
blade and
scales that
on one side are dark bovine horn that are pressed and gilded, "
G. Wostenholm & Son's Celebrated I-XL Razor, The American's Choice, Washington Works, Sheffield." The other half of the scales were replaced and are made of wood. The tang is marked, "
G.E. Wostenholm & Son's Celebrated I-XL Razor,
Washington Works, Sheffield."
The blade
shows little evidence of hone wear. T
here are no nicks in the cutting edge and it's free of any cracks. The blade has a 3 inch cutting edge and seems to be the original full length. The blade is mostly free of surface rust and pitting. The scales aren't warped
but they're cracked
at the pivot on the front (see pictures).
The blade fits snugly between the scales. It also protrudes through the scales when closed. The razor comes in a
George Wostenholm & Sons "Real I-XL Razor" coffin box that works fine but has wear (see pictures).
Insurance is required on all shipments and will be charged with a handling fee and included in the shipping quote. Handling fee reflects Ebay’s change in policy where they now charge the seller a 10% commission on the shipping costs. Overseas customs forms will be marked with the original price and insured at that value. No exceptions
