    Description

John Ashmore - Philadelphia, PA c 1832-1850 Straight Razor.
Nice horn handle in good shape.
Front tang:  J. ASHMORE / PHILADELPHIA.
I found John Ashmore listed in Sheffield, England in 1822 as a manufacturer of forks & knives.  I found him listed in 1832-1850 in Philadelphia under the same occupation.  I have found pictures of forks, kitchen knives and simple bowie type knives made by him.
This razor has a faint etching on the blade "Fine India Steel".  Hard to get to photograph though.  I am not sure if he manufactured this razor or if it was done by Wade & Butcher as it looks very similar to their razors of this time frame.  Either way, it is a very hard to find razor this early with an American stamp on the tang.
