Pete Rose, nicknamed "Charlie Hustle", is a former player and manager in Major League Baseball.  He played from 1963 to 1986, best known for his many years with the Cincinnati Reds.  Rose, a switch hitter, is the all-time Major League leader in hits(4,256), games played (3,562), at bats(14,053), and outs(10,328).  He won 3 World Series rings, 3 Batting Titles, one Most Valuable Player Award, 2 Gold Gloves, the Rookie of the Year Award, and made 17 All-Star appearances at an unequaled 5 different positions (2nd Base, Left Field, Right Field, 3rd Base, 1st Base).  Pete Rose's nickname, "Charlie Hustle" was given to him for his play beyond the "call of duty" while on the field.  Even when being walked, Rose would run to first base, instead of the traditional walk to base.  He was also known for sliding headfirst into a base, his signature move.
You are viewing the extremely rare limited edition 1983 Pete Rose official  graphic art lithographic proof, published by Robert Landeau Associates, entitled "On Deck For The Record", hand-signed by the renowned and nationally acclaimed sports artist, Sheila Wolk.  This lithograph captures Pete Rose moments before his 4,000th career hit off of Phillies' Jerry Koosman, subsequently joining Ty Cobb to become only the second player to enter the "4,000 Hit Club".  This historical hit came 21 years to the day after Rose's first career hit.
Sheila Wolk's artistic career, however, began by drawing human anatomy as a medical illustrator, which set the foundation for her working with pastels as a sports' artist.  Her ability to capture the raw power behind the athletes' every movement became her distinguishing signature.  After 13 years of sports art, she retired to then pursue Fine Art compositions, depicting fantasy themes.  Sheila Wolk has received many prestigious awards including:

from The American Sports Art Museum & Archives/A Division of the United States Sports Academy;
1987 Woman's "Who's Who in Professional & Executive Women in the World"

, highlighting her work from 1979-1984.
This authentic "first-run" color graphic art lithographic proof was printed from the original plates in 1983. Only the highest quality heavy textured semi-gloss stock paper was used for this production. The piece has never been matted, framed, hung nor displayed, but has been properly stored, undisturbed, since creation.
Please know that the image which you are viewing is taken from a sample piece. The lithograph which you are considering is in near mint/mint condition, clean, untouched and suitable for framing. There is slight wrinkling in the left margin, which does not effect the image.
The dimension of the proof is 40" x 28" with very wide 3" margins.  There are
3 images
within the proof measuring (1)30" x 28"  and (2)11.25" x 8.75".
The proof is signed in the left bottom corner in-hand with ink by Sheila Wolk and is also signed in the plate "Sheila Wolk 83".
