    Historical Context
PHL Corp. was formed when the Baldwin-United Corporation filed for bankruptcy in 1983 and emerged as the PHL Corp. in 1986.
Baldwin-United's roots dated back to the 1800's with the formation of the Baldwin Piano Company. Over the years, the company shifted from the piano business to a financial services provider, with substantial banking and insurance holdings.
