Behemoth GB George Brittan Straight Razor Vintage 1840 Sheffield. I'm usually just a collector, but today, I'm culling the herd a bit.
Somewhere between 12/8 and
21/16" at it's widest, this is one of the early, original GB razors, a long, wide near wedge.. ...not the smooth, 1/4 hollow, thin ones that were bootlegged until much later.. I'd put this one at right at either side of 1840.
It is in as found condition, and completely original and untouched. The scales are absolutely original and in excellent condition! . Amazingly, not even bug bitten, though there is a very small chip at the base of one end. The wear pattern is from the men who carried it and sharpened it throughout their lives, and I'd never dream of destroying all that history by "restoring" it.
