April 29, 1986 was a historic night for Roger Clemens, who broke Steve
Carlton's 1969 record for strikeouts in a game (19) with a 20 K
performance against the Mariners. He also struck out eight straight
Mariners in that game, tying an American League mark. This "Rocket's Red
Glare" Bill Purdom Lithograph captures the moment when the
twentieth strikeout occurred (Phil Bradley went down looking). The 36 x
15-3/4" lithograph shows the Rocket's masterful command in a season
when he won both the Cy Young and American League MVP awards. It also
offers a unique field level view of "Ol' Fenway" as it appeared on that
evening in 1986.
