    Description

Sano Bikes was a custom frame builder in Huntsville, AL that operated from about 1995 to 2005. The company was operated by Marty Smith. This road bike frame was built in about 1996 and I am the second owner. I am 5’11” tall and would characterize this frame as medium. The person for whom it was built favored a little longer top tube and a lower top tube and was 6’ tall. I can supply you with specific dimensions if you request. The frame is manufactured from fully butted Reynolds 853 steel tubing and TIG welded. I had the frame stripped about 10 years ago and professionally powder coated. I also made my own decals and applied them during this process. The frame weighs about 7.3 pounds with all components shown. The frame and powder coat are in very good shape other than some small scrapes and chips. There are no dents. I’ve had the frame hanging up for the last 5 years because I can no longer ride drop bars. See my other listings for other parts from it.
Note that I will remove some parts and pack separately to make overall packing easier.

    Here's a short history...
Sano Bikes was founded in Huntsville, AL in the 90's by Marty Smith. He was an engineer who build all the necessary tools and equipment to make a bicycle and then he made one for his senior design project. His father owned a machine shop in Huntsville and after graduation Marty set up as a custom bike builder. His contribution was design, fitting the tubing, tools and jigs, painting, and marketing and promotion. He hired aerospace welders to do the actually welding. The Sano name was taken from a local state park. This bike was ordered by a local racer, Grant Mann, who lived in Columbus Indiana. That year, his team was sponsored by GT Bicycles and others. This bike was built to mimic the double diamond frame design of GT, with their permission. Grant raced the bicycle one year, used it for training the next year, and then sold it the year after that to me. Shortly after that, I moved to Knoxville, TN and this was my main road bike, although I never raced. Part way through, I had the frame stripped and powder coated. Five years ago, I had cancer and parked the bike. After I recovered, I could no longer ride drop bars and the bike just sat. Now I am riding a Trek FX sport carbon and decided to clean out my bicycles and tools. I am 73 years old. I also purchased The Ellsworth mountain bike I have listed from Grant, but neither of us raced mountain bikes.
